DESERTS & MOUNTAINS

 

There is something counter-intuitive in the desert : in the Sahara, one of the most arid environments in the world and the poorest in life, we find skeletons of marine mammals. What is a desert today was the bottom of a mega-ocean millions of years ago : the Tethys. The desert has this in common with the polar regions whose ice we core to study the climate of several thousand years ago : it forces those who accept to open their eyes to see far back in time.
